Strawberries and Rhubarb

There's good things happening over here. Like twelve pounds of rhubarb. And this morning, the first three ruby-red strawberries of the season. All three just perfect specimens of strawberry-ness, in all ways: color, shape, smell, taste. My little boy agreed--he was almost indignant when I said that they were finished. His favorite word hurtled out of his mouth: "more!" There will be more, we just have to wait, I told him. But that's no good to a toddler. And I don't blame him a bit.

  2. Twelve pounds of rhubarb? What fun! Those strawberries look great. The birds always seemed to be the first to find my best strawberries. Sigh...

  3. Oh they look yummy! We just put strawberries and rhubarb in this year so unfortunately I will have to wait to enjoy them for quite awhile. But next year it will be exciting. We are going to add new things each year, this year we also put in 2 pear trees ( so much more waiting for them, boo hoo)

  5. So you found more rhubarb... that's good. We don't have strawberries yet, but they're close. I remember when our son was your son's age he used to go out on the deck in Brooklyn every morning and carefully check the planter for strawberries. He called then "abees."

  6. Rebecca - Aren't they gorgeous?

Denise - 12 pounds is a lot more than I thought. But I am having fun! Amazingly, the strawberries are not getting eaten by anyone but a little boy.

Milk Maid - It's so hard to wait for fruit, isn't it? You just have to plant it and forget about it. I like your plan of attack; I've been doing the same thing.

innBrooklyn - Oh, that ice cream sounds amazing! I can't believe that you get things that we haven't even seen yet at our markets!

Peter - Yes, I get obsessed and nothing can stop me. My son calls them bur-burries. I can't help but to let him eat each and every one.

  7. My litle guy refuses to eat strawberries--fresh ones at least; he loves the strawberry jam I made last year. Funniest thing, eh? Oh well, more for me! He'll catch on one day and I won't get any!
