We had a nice lunch yesterday that did not involve jelly. I couldn't resist this Dona Maria Mole at the supermarket the other day. I love this kind of stuff. I get lost in the international aisle all the time. The ingredients weren't awful; there were only six of them and they were all real foods that I could pronounce, as per Michael Pollan's new book, Food Rules. (I like that he's stopped preaching to the choir and is trying to influence everybody. Good luck! Sincerely!) So I felt it was okay. I've been craving mole and am too lazy to make it myself. One day. But for now, I elect to be lazy. I don't think I could ever come up with what I'm craving--my mole experiences are from Oaxaca, and well, once you have that good stuff, you will never be able to accept anything else. One can pretend, though, can't one?You basically slide this paste out of the glass jar (which I'll keep, thank you, very cute!) with four cups of stock, alongside your already seared turkey breast. Cover and put in the oven at 325 for about an hour. Then serve with piping hot tortillas, farmer's cheese, and a red cabbage salad tossed with parsley and a vinaigrette.
Wowzers, that sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteI gave a "friend" of mine a jar of
ReplyDeletemole that I picked up in Mexico
when I was visiting. She threw it
out because it was not up to her
sophisticated and European tastes.

Had to pop on to say I've enjoyed a visit to your blog. I found it while looking for some wisdom on canning clementines and have enjoyed much more than that here. Now you have me hungering for more jelly! As if I needed a nudge haha.
ReplyDeleteGood work. Cheers!
Erin
OMG...that looks SO good. I've seen that mole jar before, but I never tried it. I'll have to pick it up next time!
ReplyDeleteJim- Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMamou- Well, I'm sure it was just her particular taste. But who throws out gifted Mole and then tells you about it?? Not a friend, for sure.
Erin- Thanks so much for reading and leaving such a nice comment! Especially since I now know about your blog!
Sophia- Thank you! You know, it wasn't the best mole in the world but it was quite a sturdy one. And as a bonus, the cleaned up jar is a juice glass!
Duck fat roasted potatoes! You have my attention!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Oaxaca! Is there a better food place, anywhere? I still not regret not bringing home bagfuls of the dried mole pastes the sell in the market for all your basic moles (amarillo, colorado, etc).
ReplyDelete(FYI, I'm using the snowpacalypse as a great excuse to catch up on my Google Reader--I'm not, you know, blog stalking.)
Doris - Yes, swoon indeed. I miss that place something fierce.
ReplyDelete(Comment away! I love it. I'm glad the snow is giving you a reason to read! Sometimes my reader really piles up...)
